Jazz Munitz from Hendrick Hudson High School, Akshay Ramaswamy from Lakeland High School, and Alexander May from Walter Panas High School each received their scholarships at a June 4 awards ceremony held in Cortlandt Manor.

“The business community recognizes that by supporting these scholarships for the students of today, we are strengthening our future,” Deb Milone, Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce executive director, said at the event, according to a press release.

“Maybe today I was standing next to the student who finds a cure for cancer or becomes President of the United States.”

Munitz plans to study pre-med at Cornell University in Ithaca.

“It’s incredible to be honored by the community that’s given me the foundation to go out into the world at large and try to make a difference,” Munitz said in a press release.

“It’s wonderful to be selected, but so many of my peers, friends and fellow students are just as deserving.”

Ramaswamy plans to study science at Stanford University in California.

“I’m honored,” Ramaswamy said in a press release. “I think it’s great they’re giving this award to local students.”

"I’m glad the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce is encouraging students to engage with the community.”

May, who hopes to become a biomedical researcher, plans to attend SUNY Binghamton in the fall.

“I’m very excited; it’s a huge opportunity to receive this scholarship,” May said in a press release. "I just want to thank the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce."
