While adults voted at the school and library budget election May 19, faculty members offered students a real-life lesson in the democratic process, according to a press release.
Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary School students selected which special lunch will be served in the near future.
“Hamburger sliders beat out cheese lasagna and chicken parmesan,” Joshua Cohen, school principal, said in a press release. “Everyone is looking forward to this delicious meal!”
At Montrose’s Frank G. Lindsey Elementary School, the site of the Hendrick Hudson School District elections, students voted on their favorite lunch.
“Breakfast for lunch won,” Donna Torrisi, school principal, said in a press release.
Students at Furnace Woods Elementary School in Cortlandt Manor cast their ballots to select whether crazy hair and hats or sports jerseys would be the focus on an upcoming theme day.
“Students truly saw that every vote counts as crazy hair/hat day won by only two votes,” Principal Cindy Kramer said in a press release. “As a result, on Friday, June 12, Furnace Woods will be abuzz with wild hats and hairdos.”
In the traditional elections, Hendrick Hudson School District voters approved the proposed 2015-16 school budget and the annual bus proposition.
Voters also re-elected school board members Mary-Pat Briggi and Laurie Ryan, who ran unopposed, according to another press release.
“The community, once again, has spoken in support of our schools, programs and staff,” Hendrick Hudson School District Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter said in a press release. “I am thankful for such support, which will ensure that we continue to provide world-class programs for kids as we continue to work toward becoming a destination district.”
