Guardian Academy Charter School Of Peekskill Hosts Info Session

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The Guardian Academy Charter School of Peekskill will hold an information session on Thursday, June 12 at 7 p.m. at The Elks Club.

The Elks Club is located at 1038 Brown St., Peekskill.

All are welcome, especially parents who are interested in finding out more about the educational model.

Charter schools are independent public schools, therefore, tuition-free, that operate under a contract or “charter.” Recognizing that one-size does not fit all when it comes to education, charter schools offer quality and choice within the public education system.

Charter schools trade operational freedom and flexibility for a greater degree of accountability. They are run by an independent Board of Trustees and are held accountable to the students and parents they serve based on how well they meet the academic goals established in their charter and, how they meet fiscal and operational responsibilities.

The Guardian Academy Charter School is being proposed by a group of founders who will file an application with the New York State Education Department Board of Regents, one of two charter authorizers in the state.

The school is proposing an August 2015 opening with Kindergarten and first grade, and adding a grade each year until eighth grade.

The Guardian Academy Charter School will feature a co-teaching model together with a strong character education program integrated throughout the curriculum as well as a longer school day and year.
