Five area high school students were awarded $1,000 scholarships at the Fifth Annual Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce Annual Scholarship Awards Breakfast on June 2. The students and their parents were treated to breakfast with a view of the Hudson River Valley at the Garrison Golf Club and were joined by more than 85 business and community leaders.These young people are the business and community leaders of tomorrow and it is essential that we support them in their educational endeavors today, said Deb Milone, Executive Director, Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce. The success of our annual scholarship program is fully dependent on the generosity of our chamber members and I wish to thank all of those who support the program. The five students honored for their academic achievements, community involvement and personal character were Myriam Pauta of Peekskill High School; Sarah MacLean of Croton Harmon High School; Allison Hays of Walter Panas High School; Nina Rathbun of Lakeland High School and Tara Kutzbach of Hendrick Hudson High School.Pauta will attend Westchester Community College and major in History, Political Science and Legal Studies. MacLean will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and plans to major in Biology on a pre-med track. Hays will attend Elmira College and major in Biology and hopes to get her Masters in Occupational Therapy. Rathbun will study music with a concentration in voice and piano while attending Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. Kutzbach will attend the University of Pennsylvania and study biology. A portion of the proceeds from the Chambers fall golf outing is dedicated to the annual scholarship fund which is organized by volunteers from the business community. The Golf Outing Chairperson is Joe Lippolis of Prudential River Towns Real Estate and the Scholarship Chairperson is Don Bennett from Pamal Broadcasting. Both men are supported by volunteer committees. The chamber represents more than 400 businesses in Cortlandt, Croton-on-Hudson, Peekskill, Buchanan, Putnam Valley and the surrounding area.
