Common Core Gives Rise To Lakeland Parents' Group

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- A group that helps parents understand the new Common Core Learning Standards will hold an informational meeting Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Lakeland High School Auditorium, according to a LoHud report.

The new standards have brought different testing and curriculum requirements, which have left some parents confused. Teachers and school officials will attend the meeting to answer questions, according to the article.

The state has also begun to collect more student data, including attendance and suspension records. Officials in many schools are questioning whether that data is necessary, according to the report.
