Located along the Hudson River in the coveted private Sleepy Hollow Manor enclave of Sleepy Hollow, the estate is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Known as the Fremont House, 7 Pokahoe Dr. was built in 1847 by American diplomat, newspaper publisher and New York politician James Watson Webb.  A prominent voice in the Whig and Republican Party for more than three decades, Webb and Abraham Lincoln shared a common bond, which eventually encouraged Lincoln to reward Webb by appointing him as U.S. minister to Brazil.

In 1864, Webb sold the home to the wealthy merchant and 71st mayor of New York City Ambrose Kingsland, who lived here for a year before American military officer, explorer and politician John C. Fremont moved in. Known as “The Pathfinder,” Fremont was the first anti-slavery candidate of the Republican Party to run for office as president.  Fremont and his wife, Jessie Fremont, lived in the house until 1875.

Although maintaining its original architectural features and charm, the current residence, which resides on nearly three private acres of riverfront land, underwent major renovations in the 1950s. The home was gutted and reduced in size, cut down from three stories to one. Additional alternations were made by the estate’s various owners throughout the years, all of which prioritized the preservation of its historic qualities and style. The four-bedroom, three and a half- bath home now offers modern amenities, added to meet today’s lifestyle needs.

The property is being represented by Rye agent Dalia H. Valdes and on the market for $3,095,000.
