Lewisboro Police Probe Theft At Building Site

LEWISBORO, N.Y. – Lewisboro police are investigating the theft of an iPod and a stepladder Friday at a construction site on Chapel Road in Waccabuc.

Police were called by the nephew of the property owner. The nephew, a carpenter who was working on the building, said that he and his uncle left the property to go to a hardware store. When they returned 40 minutes later, they discovered that a stepladder and the nephew’s iPod were missing from inside the building. The iPod is valued at $350 and the ladder about $150.

The property owner said another carpenter and his assistant had also been working on the building that day, though he did not accuse them of the theft. Police attempted to contact them by phone to see if they had had lost any property, but calls were not returned.

The following items were also reported by the Lewisboro police:

Unlicensed Driving: On Monday, June 18, at a speeding checkpoint on Elmwood Road, police clocked a car traveling above the posted 30 mph speed limit. Police said the driver admitted she did not have a driver’s license. She was cited for unauthorized operation of a motor vehicle and the car was towed and impounded. When the driver’s husband arrived, he was asked if he knew his wife was driving without a license. When he answered, “yes,” he was cited for permitting unlicensed operation.

Downed Utility Pole: Police were called to Lockwood Road near Silver Mine Road in South Salem on the report of a utility pole down on Wednesday, June 20. When officers arrived, the Vista Fire Department was there. The area where the pole was down was taped and coned off until New York State Electric and Gas could make repairs.

Customer Locked In: On Thursday, June 21, police were sent to the Valley View Greenhouse on Smith Ridge Road on a report of a customer trapped in the parking lot after the business had closed. The officer met the customer at the locked gate. She said she had been looking at plants and when she went to pay, nobody was there and the gate was locked. The manager was called to open the gate.

Motorcycle Impounded: Police said an officer on patrol Friday on Ridgefield Avenue in South Salem saw a motorcycle turning left off of Route 35 onto Ridgefield in violation of the “No Left Turn” sign. The driver had a class C license, but not a class DM, which is required for driving a motorcycle, police said. The motorcycle was impounded.

Suspicious Van: Police responded Saturday to Lake Kitchawan Drive in South Salem on a report of a suspicious vehicle. A man reported that his 13-year-old son was playing in the street when a white male in a green van stopped and told him he was looking for his lost dog. The boy went directly home and the van, described as green with white striping, left the area. No license plate number or description of the driver was given. Police patrolled the area but were unable to find the van.
