Teen Charged With Stealing From Vehicles In Yorktown

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Yorktown police have charged a homeless teen in connection with a wave of larcenies, authorities said.

The arrest came about after police received a series of phone calls from Mohegan Lake residents reporting property stolen from several vehicles on Friday, according to officials.

An officer conducted an investigation confirming that several vehicles had been entered overnight, and that cash and other personal property had been stolen, police report.

Further investigation indicated that a suspect in the larcenies allegedly was staying at a residence on Lakeshore Drive in Mohegan Lake, according to officials.

Officers went to Lakeshore Drive the following day and arrested a 17-year-old male around noon; the suspect was allegedly found in possession of stolen property from the larcenies, police report.

The teen has been charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, a class A misdemeanor. He was also charged with false personation, a class A misdemeanor, after allegedly providing a false name to police, according to officials.

Following processing, the defendant was arraigned and remanded to the Westchester County Jail on $1,500 bail, police report.

He is scheduled to answer the charges against him in Yorktown Justice Court tomorrow, according to officials.
