New York State Police troopers conducted a traffic stop on the parkway at approximately 10 p.m. on Thursday night in Clinton, when the driver, Newport, Maine resident Nicholas Norris, 36, committed an undisclosed vehicle and traffic violation.

During the subsequent stop, troopers reported that there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Further investigation determined that Norris, and his passenger, Bronx resident Clinton Jennings, 33, were in possession of 39 grams of marijuana. A search by a K9 Unit from the Poughkeepsie Police Department found that the two were also in possession of Clonazepam, Carisoprodol and crack cocaine.

Troopers arrested both men, charging them with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Norris was also cited for criminal possession of marijuana. Each have since been released and are due back in the Town of Clinton Court next month to answer the charges.
