PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – A suspect has been charged in connection with the Friday morning stabbing death of a Peekskill man, according to police.

Peekskill police have charged 29-year-old Sunil Williams of Mount Vernon with second-degree murder in the death of a 23-year-old man resulting from an altercation at approximately 10:30 a.m. on the 600 block of South Street. A second unnamed person was arrested on unrelated charges, said Peekskill police spokesman Lt. Eric Johansen.

“The victim became involved in an altercation with one of the subjects and another man (Williams) jumped in and stabbed the victim,” Johansen said.

Peekskill emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the stabbing and the victim was taken to Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor, where he was pronounced dead. Williams was found by police shortly after the incident.

The victim has not yet been identified, but Johansen said he recently moved to the area from the Bronx. The victim and Williams had been involved in an ongoing dispute, Johansen said.

Johansen thanked the Westchester District Attorney’s office for help in the investigation.

“We had two individuals involved in a grisly death in custody in less than seven hours,” he said.

Williams was set to be arraigned sometime Saturday.
