Putnam Valley Man Faces Assault Charges In Domestic Dispute, Police Say

PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. -- A Putnam Valley man faces assault and other charges after he was arrested in a domestic dispute case, police said.

Gheorghe Stavila, 65, was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 6, after attacking his wife during an argument, according to Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith.

Deputy Sheriff Benjamin Levine arrested Stavila and charged him with third degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, both misdemeanors, police said.

Stavila was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, he could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 for each charge.
