Putnam Valley Man Charged With Using Credit Card Stolen From Carmel Woman

PUTNAM, N.Y. -- A Putnam Valley man has been arrested on felony charges for allegedly stealing a woman's purse and credit cards from her car, Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith said.

According to police, a Carmel resident reported that her purse and credit cards had been stolen from her vehicle overnight. It was later determined that the thief, identified as Thomas Reilly, 21, of Putnam Valley, had used the stolen credit cards to purchase merchandise at various locations. 

Reilly, who was arrested by officers on Dec. 12, was charged with felony fourth-degree grand larceny and felony fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, police said.

He was arraigned before Town of Carmel Justice Joseph Spofford and committed to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $2,500.00 cash or bond pending a future court appearance.

If found guilty of the felony charges, the defendant could face up to four years in a New York State Correctional Facility and a fine of up to $5,000.00.
