But Arlington Fire Department and a half dozen other Dutchess County fire departments were able to contain the blaze to Nonna's Pizzeria, saving adjoining businesses at the 44 Plaza mall at 51 Burnett Blvd.

The cause remains under investigation, Arlington Fire District Chief Tory G. Gallante said on Wednesday afternoon.

Gallante said the Arlington Fire District was dispatched to Nonna's Pizzeria at 5:30 a.m. for an automatic fire alarm.

The first fire department unit arrived on the scene within three minutes of the initial dispatch, Gallante said, where firefighters discovered an active fire. The fire extended through the roof area of the pizzeria, Gallante said.

The pizzeria sustained significant damage, but firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading into other businesses within the strip mall, Gallante said. The adjacent H & R Block, Radio Shack and liquor store were forced closed due to water damage and/or damage to the building’s electrical service, according to the fire chief. The adjacent laundromat suffered water damage, but was able to reopen by Wednesday afternoon, Gallante added.

Two firefighters were treated at the hospital for minor injuries and released, Gallante said. In addition, one firefighter and one police officer were treated at the scene for minor injuries and not transported to the hospital, according to Gallante.

Assisting at the scene of the two-alarm fire were the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department, Fairview Fire District and LaGrange Fire District.

Also assisting were members of the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Town of Poughkeepsie Water Department, Town of Poughkeepsie Building Department, Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response and Central Hudson Gas & Electric.

The New Hamburg Fire District, Pleasant Valley Fire District and Wappingers Falls Fire Department relocated equipment to cover Arlington stations. All units were back in service by 11:20 a.m., according to Gallante.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Arlington Fire District Fire Investigation Division and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
