PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Peekskill police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person who has been dumping contaminated soil at a local school.

Twice black plastic bags containing soil tainted with either gasoline or home heating oil have been left in trash cans at the Woodside Elementary School on Depew Street, police said.

The bags are the kind that contractors use, police said.

Anyone witnessing such dumping, or who may know of some home or commercial renovation projects in the vicinity, is asked to call police at (914) 737-8000.

All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
