Police: Peekskill Man Accused Of Shooting At Neighbor

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – A Peekskill man was charged last week after firing a pistol at a neighbor during a dispute, city police said. The neighbor was unharmed.

Kenneth Schmidt, 47, was arrested at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the 200 block of Smith Street by Police Officer Jack Galusha.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired on Smith Street that was called in by a resident. The caller said his upstairs neighbor, Schmidt, had fired a shot from a handgun at his head following a dispute. Officers surrounded the residence and were able to remove the suspect without incident, police said. A loaded .38-caliber handgun was found at the residence, police said.

Schmidt was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C felony; first-degree reckless endangerment, a class D felony; and second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor.

He was held without bail for arraignment in City Court.

Shoplifting: Cerdan Lovell, 42, of Peekskill was charged with petty larceny at the Crossroads Shopping Center by Police Officer Chatoya Woodland. Lovell was charged after shoplifting several items from the Rite-Aid store in the shopping center, police said. He was released on his own recognizance and is due Nov. 15 in City Court.

Warrant Arrest: Cesar Rodriguez, 40, of Peekskill was arrested at 3 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, and charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, by Police Officer Steve Zappolo. Rodriguez had an outstanding warrant and was charged after being turned over to city police by the New York State Police. Rodriguez was wanted in an assault on a female in Peekskill in September 2011, police said. He was held without bail for arraignment in City Court.
