PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Peekskill Police have arrested a city resident and charged him with stealing thousands of dollars in jewelry from a neighbor.
Donte Battle, 27, was arrested June 22 by Peekskill Police detectives at the Westchester County Jail, where he was being held on unrelated charges. He was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class D felony.
Battle is accused of possessing more than $3,000 in stolen jewelry and property taken in May from a multifamily residence on Old Bay Street and found when Battle attempted to sell it, according to Peekskill Police spokesman Detective Ray Henderlong.
"Battle attempted to sell the stuff at a local establishment that purchases jewelry," Henderlong said. "They are required to keep records of who they buy it from."
Battle was transported to the city court and is being held for arraignment.
Other arrests reported by Peekskill Police for the past week:
Sherri Hunt, 49, of Peekskill, was arrested June 22 and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, a class B felony. She was arrested following a six-month narcotics investigation, according to police. She was held for arraignment in city court.
