Peekskill Police: Burglar Recognized By Neighbor

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – A Peekskill man is in custody after allegedly burglarizing a neighbor’s home, city police said.

Bayron Guevara, 28, was arrested at 5 p.m. Aug. 26 and charged with second-degree burglary, a class C felony, at police headquarters by Police Officers Fabian Gonzalez and Detective Marcos Martinez.

Guevara entered the home early Aug. 25, according to police. He woke up one of the residents, who chased him from the home, police said.

He was taken into custody on two outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court on unrelated charges, police said. Guevara was charged with burglary after he was positively identified by the victim. He was held for arraignment in city court without bail.

Other arrests reported by Peekskill Police in the past week:

• Sean DeLeon, 17, of Shrub Oak was arrested Aug. 25 at 10:15 p.m. and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental administration and criminal possession of marijuana, all misdemeanors, on the 1000 block of Orchard Street by Police Officers Matt Basso and Carl DeMarco.

DeLeon was stopped for a minor traffic infraction and found to be in possession of more than 25 grams of marijuana and a small quantity of ecstasy, police said. When officers attempted to take him into custody, he fled but was captured after a brief foot chase, police said. A total of $890 in cash was found in his possession and was seized for possible forfeiture, police said. He was held for arraignment in city court without bail.

• Alonzo Thompson, 50, of Peekskill, was arrested Aug. 24 at 6:50 p.m. and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, on the 900 block of Paulding Street by Police Officers Matt Basso and Carl DeMarco.

Thompson was charged after he was stopped for a minor traffic infraction and was found to be in possession of a small quantity of heroin, according to police. He was held for arraignment in city court without bail.
