The Suffern resident, 24, was not on duty and was on the way to work when the crash happened, lohud.com said.
He reportedly was driving about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, when police think he attempted to pass a driver about to make a left turn, according to the lohud.com report. Mosquera reportedly crashed into the car, making his car hit Marcos Tawil, 17, and David Maldanado, 19, who were in in the driveway of their school's dorm, according to lohud.com.
Mosquera, who began his police career in Newburgh's police department, worked there from March 21, 2015, until January of this year, when he began working at the Police Department in Peekskill, Newburgh Police Chief Daniel Cameron told lohud.com.
Mosquera was credited in the media last year with using naloxone to save someone on a drug overdose and drew praise in 2015 when he reportedly tackled a teen who was armed and trying to make a "disturbance," lohud.com said.
In a third instance, he was cited by police in Peekskill for his work in a traffic stop that led to felony charges, lohud.com reported.
