At approximately 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, emergency responders were dispatched to the snowy intersection of Route 6 and Conklin Avenue for the crash, which resulted in non-life threatening injuries for the driver and a passenger and a great deal of fluids being leaked onto the roadway.
According to the Lake Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association, upon arrival, they found two with injuries and an active diesel fuel leak coming from the tractor trailer’s saddle tank that resulted in approximately 20 gallons of fuel being spilled onto the roadway.
Firefighters plugged the leak, spread speedy dry and hazmat pads to absorb the fluids in the roadway and dammed a nearby water catch basin so it would not be contaminated.
The Peekskill Volunteer Fire Department took charge of closing the snowy road, while the Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the injured driver to be treated at a local hospital. New York State Police officers and the Peekskill Police Department assisted at the scene.
Police temporarily shut down the roadway while crews cleaned up the spill and removed the vehicles involved in the crash. Local DPW crews were then dispatched to the area to salt and sand the slick pavement before it was reopened.
