Luis A. Rivera, 32, was arrested on Saturday, Aug. 22, after he was found in the basement of a house on Pleasant Road in Putnam Valley, police said.

Police had received a complaint from an occupant of the house stating that Rivera “shouldn’t be there,” police said.

The responding officer then interviewed a woman at the house and was told that she had invited Rivera there, but a further investigation revealed that there was an active order of protection issued by the City of Peekskill Justice Court that prohibited Rivera from having any contact with her, police said.

Rivera was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal contempt, a misdemeanor, police said. He was sent to the Putnam County Correctional Facility where he was held pending arraignment, police said.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, Rivera could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000, police said.
