Man Caught With Illegal Handgun, Heroin In Poughkeepsie, Police Say

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A Poughkeepsie man was collared for possession of heroin and an illegal handgun during a search of his home on Tuesday, according to the Dutchess County Task Force.

Shuron Sweat, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, following a search of his home at 120 Hudson Ave., after agents with the task force along with members of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Emergency Services Unit, received information of drug dealing taking place at the residence, said Frank Tasciotti, assistant coordinator of the task force. 

During the search of the residence, an illegally possessed handgun, as well as a quantity of heroin, scales, and packaging material were seized, Tasciotti said.

Sweat is being held without bail at the Dutchess County Jail. Additional charges are pending.
