Jason M. Reed was arrested about 1:30 a.m. on Monday at a Shell gas station in the Town of Hyde Park.

Reed has subsequently been charged with 14 other burglaries or break-in attempts after a Sheriff's Office investigation with the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office, the Town of Hyde Park Police, the Town of East Fishkill Police, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police and the Town of Fishkill Police departments.

Since May 3, the Sheriff's Office has worked with the other law enforcement agencies to investigate similar break-ins at gas stations/convenience stores in which cartons of cigarettes were stolen. Reed became a suspect in 12 burglaries and three attempted burglaries.

Shortly after Monday's burglary of a Shell gas station in Hyde Park, a vehicle carrying Reed and two unidentified women was stopped close to the crime scene, according to Capt. John Watterson, a spokesman for the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.

Cartons of stolen cigarettes from the Shell station were recovered at the time of the traffic stop, Watterson said, but the proceeds from the other burglaries have not been recovered.

The motivation for these burglaries appears to be drug-related, Watterson said in a press statement, and the businesses were apparently chosen at random.

All three suspects have been charged with felony third-degree burglary. All three were arraigned before the Town of Hyde Park Court.

Reed was sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. The two unnamed female suspects were released to appear at a later date.

At this time, Watterson said the identities of the females will not be released for investigatory reasons.
