MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. – New York State Police in Hawthorne arrested one man on a charge of driving while impaired and another on possession of a controlled substance after being stopped on the Taconic State Parkway on Aug. 29, according to New York State Police.

Robert D. Reichert, 22, of Yorktown, was arrested on a charge of driving while ability impaired by drugs, and Colin J. Rice, 26, of Mohegan Lake, New York, was arrested on a charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor, according to the state police report.

Troopers responded to a report of an erratic vehicle. The suspect’s vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and cutting off vehicles, officials said.

While searching for the vehicle, troopers encountered a crash in the area and an investigation revealed that the vehicle involved in the crash was the car they were looking for. The driver of the vehicle, Reichert, was found to be impaired by drugs at the time of the crash, said troopers.

Rice, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was found to possess approximately 1 gram of heroin, according to the report.

Reichert and Rice were issued appearance tickets directing them to appear before the Town of Mount Pleasant Court on Thursday, state police said.
