Beacon Woman, 37, Charged With Stealing Daycare Benefits

BEACON, N.J. — A Beacon woman was arrested by Dutchess County sheriffs on Wednesday for stealing daycare benefits after a year-long investigation by the county Department of Community and Family Services.

Cindy Rivera, 37, was charged with two third-degree felonies, grand larceny and welfare fraud, after the county discovered she allegedly stole over $41,000 of benefits from July 2011 to 2012.

Rivera allegedly kept collecting benefits and concealing the fact that her husband was available and home to watch their children.

She was arraigned at Poughkeepsie City Court and was ordered to appear in court on Oct. 14 at 9 a.m.
