Walter Becker, 80, Volunteer Fireman, Centennial Hose Of Peekskill

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. - Walter Becker, a longtime Peekskill resident, died Oct. 9. He was 80.

Becker was born Oct. 5, 1934, in Germany. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1956, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1957 and served as military police until his discharge in 1963. He served as a volunteer fireman with the Centennial Hose of Peekskill, the Peekskill Fire Patrol, and the Putnam-Northern Westchester Fire Police, where he was lieutenant. He was also a member of the Peekskill Elks Lodge #744.

Becker is survived by his children, Franziska (Michael) Goodman, Walter R. (Debra) Becker, Charlotte Ayres and Heidi (Ronald) Quinn; a brother; two sisters; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Calling hours are Sunday, Oct. 12 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.O. Curry Funeral Home, Peekskill, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
