Leo was born May 6, 1940, in Brooklyn, son of Louis Arthur and Eva Marie (nee Richer) Leo. He served in the U.S, Navy from 1964 to 1970. He graduated from St. John’s University in Queens, and then entered St. Joseph’s Seminary at Dunwoodie in Yonkers. On Nov. 16, 1985, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of New York. He served served the following parishes of the Archdiocese of New York: Our Lady of Mercy in Port Chester, St. Joachim’s Church in Beacon, St. Joseph’s Church in New Windsor, St. Catherine Laboure Church in Lake Katrine, St. Joseph’s Church in Kingston; and from 1990 until his retirement at the Assumption Church in Peekskill.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Saugerties Council 4536 for 47 years and the Peekskill Council 462 while at Assumption Church; and a member of the 4th Degree Assembly #775. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy - St. Francis of Assisi Lodge in Beacon, and a member of the American Legion Post of Peekskill. He also served as chaplain for the Boys Scouts of America Westchester/Putnam Council from 1992.
Leo is survived by his sister, Amber R. Hyatt; sister-in law, Jeannette Leo; and niece, EvaMarie Leo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 29 at 10 a.m., by Bishop Dominick Lagonegro, at Assumption Church in Peekskill, followed by a private interment at a later date in Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor.
