Rosemary Clarkin, 82, Of Peekskill, Teacher, Hillcrest Elementary School

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. - Rosemary Clarkin of Peekskill died Jan. 28. She was 82.

Clarkin was born May 21, 1931, in the Bronx, to Frank and Mary (Delahanty) Boucher. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1949 and St. John's University in 1953. She was a remedial reading teacher at Assumption School and was elected to the Peekskill Board of Education in 1983 where she served as its first female president. In 1988, she returned to the classroom and ended her teaching career at Hillcrest Elementary School in 1996. She was a  communicant of Assumption Church and a eucharistic minister, she was active in the Christian Family Movement (CFM) and Assumption's Home School Association. She was a member of the initial English language Cursiello in New York and served as a retreat director and team member for numerous Curseillo weekends.

Clarkin is survived by her husband, Vincent; children, Regina of Peekskill, Gregory (Rani) of Fairfield, Conn., Kevin (Jeannette) of Ridgefield, Conn., Helene and Don Chaisson of Iowa City, Iowa, David of California and Moira and Jai Evans of Washington DC.; nine grandchildren; and brother, Francis Boucher of Washington DC.

Calling hours are Thursday, Jan. 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Dorsey - Carlone Funeral Home 1100 Cortlandt St., Peekskill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31 at Assumption Church, Peekskill, followed by interment in Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor.
