Breaking News: Wednesday Washout: Heavy Rainfall With Possible Thunderstorms

Roger Hamilton, 62, Peekskill Tax Consultant

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Roger Hamilton, a longtime Peekskill resident, died Dec. 6 after a prolonged battle with multiple conditions. He was 62.

Born Sept. 26, 1950, in the Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of Anne R. Youmans and Bernard G. Hamilton. He graduated from high school in New York City and earned an associate's degree in accounting from Monroe College in the Bronx.

In 1993, he moved to Peekskill and established Brush Graphics and Tax Consulting. He met Myrtis Williams-Hamilton in 1998 and they were married in 2002.

Hamilton was a member of the B.I.D. and Gateway Chamber of Commerce, he worked with the founders of Peekskill Celebration and was responsible for creating the Old-Timers stickball games. He also volunteered at the Victorian Ice Cream Social and was quick to get involved in activities that would promote the community, his family said.

He worked at the farmers' market and won awards for his recipes at the annual "Men Who Cook" fundraising event at Field Library. He also established, operated and promoted a free Christmas show at the Paramount Center for the Arts for more than a decade. He collected thousands of toys for children in town who might have gone without. In 2004, Hamilton required a double organ transplant. The community raised money to pay medical expenses.

He is survived by his father; his wife, Myrtis Williams-Hamilton; a brother, two sisters, five children; and two grandchildren.

Visitation and a service were Tuesday at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in Peekskill.
