PEEKSKILL, N.Y. — John J. Burns, a Peekskill resident, died Wednesday, March 4. He was 91.
Burns was born to John and Elizabeth (nee O'Donnell) Burns, serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retiring from IBM in 1987 after a 36-year career.
He remained active as an usher at Assumption Church, a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus; a volunteer at the Columbian Hose Company, a volunteer fireman for the Montrose Fire Department and Putnam Northern Westchester Fire Police.
Burns was predeceased by his parents, his sister Regina Burns, and his son-in-law Robert Beshara and is survived by his wife Helen J. (nee Karpenski) Burns and daughters Patricia Burns-Beshara and Maureen Bovich and his her husband Jack.
There will be a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 25 at the Assumption Church .
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Volunteer Firemen's Home of the State of New York.
