Joan M. Sackal, 86, Peekskill Resident

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Joan M. Sackal, 86, a lifetime resident of Peekskill, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, after a brief illness. She was 86.

Born Sept. 3, 1929, she was the daughter of Alexander and Margaret Lent. She was retired from the Peekskill City School system, where she was employed as a library aide, and more recently from Hudson Valley Hospital Center, where she worked as a technician in central services for many years. She was a longtime parishioner of Assumption Church, Peekskill. She loved her family, her independence, her hometown, her country and football, especially the New York Giants. She was a huge fan of the University of New Haven Charger football team, where she loved watching her grandson play.

She is survived by her three children, Jill Conklin (Steven Cordovano), Joseph Sackal (Susan Prairrie) and Jeffrey (Dina) Sackal; seven grandchildren, Shannon (James) Conklin-Nonnenmacher, Courtney (Michael) Crawford, Bill and Zachary Conklin, MacKenzie (Chris) Conklin-Bogart, Jeffrey T. and Elizabeth Sackal; step-granddaughter Lauren Prairrie; six great-grandchildren; one brother ,James (Mary) Lent; and nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph F. Sackal; and brother, Lawrence (Larry) Lent.

Visiting will be held Friday, Feb. 26, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Dorsey-Carlone Funeral Home, 1100 Cortlandt St., Peekskill. A service will be held Saturday, Feb 27, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor.
