Gertrude McKeon Bentley, 90, Of Peekskill

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. - Gertrude McKeon Bentley of Peekskill died June 11. She was 90.

Bentley was born Jan. 30, 1923, to Matthew James McKeon and Sara Sutton McKeon, she graduated from Peekskill High School in 1939 and studied dietetics at Simmons College in Boston, where she was a class officer.

She was an officer of the Peekskill Women's Club, member of the Peekskill Hospital Welcoming Committee and school parent committees. She worked as manager of The Children's Corner clothing store, she worked for the Cornell Cooperative Extension Services. In 1980 she joined the City of Peekskill Senior Nutrition Program, where she used her background as a dietician to help establish the Homebound Meals Program for area senior citizens. She also worked with the Sisters of St. Mary's in their Altar Bread department.

Bentley is survived by children, David Dow III, Niles Sutton Bentley (Laura Shore), Sara A. (Sally) Bentley, Julia M. Bentley, Dr. Jeanne B. Lawrence and Gregory V. Bentley (Wanda Livigni); eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and sister, Marie M. Walsh, of Wappinger. She was predeceased by her husband, David Dow Bentley, Jr.; and brother, Matt.

Calling hours are Thursday, June 13 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Dorsey-Carlone Funeral Home, 1100 Cortlandt St., Peekskill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 13 at Assumption Church, Peekskill, followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor.
