PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Gary "Porky" S. Male Sr., a lifelong Peekskill resident, died Aug. 16. He was 70.
Male worked at Bohlman Towers as a maintenance supervisor for the Peekskill Housing Authority before retiring in 1990. He was married to Mary Ann Eichler Male.
He was born June 10, 1942, to John and Ethel Hoyt Male. Educated in Peekskill schools, Male was an avid bowler and softball player in his younger years. He was a life member of Centennial Hose Co. 4 and a coach and umpire for Lapolla Little League.
Male was a member of the coaching staff of the Peekskill High School basketball team, which won several New York state championships. He also worked with the Peekskill High School baseball and football teams and could be seen operating the lights and scoreboard at Peekskill Stadium during games.
He is survived by a son, Gary "P.J." S. (Angela) Male, of Cortlandt Manor; four brothers, George, John, Thomas and Richard Male; two sisters, Mary and Patricia Male; a grandson and many nieces and nephews.
His wife died in 2002. Male also was predeceased by three brothers, James Male, Ted and Robert Petrocine; and three sisters, Julia Male, Theresa Lent and Rosalie Porter.
A funeral service was held Monday. Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home handled arrangements.
