Fr. Stanislaus W. Kobel Of Beacon, 70

BEACON, N.Y. -- Friar Stanislaus W. Kobel, OFM Cap., 70, died on Saturday, Nov. 12 at St. Lawrence Friary Infirmary.

Kobel was the son of the late Stanislaus W. Kobel, Sr. and Margaret Bonner Kobel. He graduated from St. Joseph's Prep High School, Philadelphia, Pa., in 1964 and then graduated from St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia, Pa., in 1968. He was a successful businessman in the fields of accounting, management, marketing and economics.

Kobel entered the Postulancy Program of the Capuchin Franciscan Friars Province of the Sacred Stigmata of St. Francis on August 27, 1989 at St. Lawrence Friary.  He made his first Profession of vows on August 3, 1991. He was ordained a priest on September 7, 1996 at Immaculate Conception Church in the Bronx by Bishop William Curlin.

He served in various dioceses, including at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Passaic, N.J., and also as a hospital chaplain at St. Mary's Hospital. Both of which are located in the Diocese of Paterson. He served for many years as Parochial Vicar at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in the Diocese of Charlotte, N.C.

Kobel is survived by his brother, John Kobel; his sisters, Kathleen Gartland and Peggy Keasler; his five nephews and one niece; three great nephews and five great nieces.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence Friary, 180 Sargent Ave.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Friary. Burial will follow in the St. Lawrence Friary Cemetery.
