Evelyn Bondra, 98, Former Longtime Resident Of Peekskill

ITHACA, N.Y. - Evelyn Bondra of Ithaca, former longtime Peekskill area resident, died Nov. 30. She was 98.

Bondra was born July 7, 1916, in New York City, to John and Elizabeth Herman Slovacek. She grew up on Wilkins Farm in Yorktown Heights and was valedictorian of her Yorktown High School class. She attended New York University and later went on to be employed as an executive secretary to the president of Standard Brands in Peekskill. She was a member of both St. Patrick's Church in Yorktown Heights, and the Assumption Church in Peekskill, volunteering at Bingo and the thrift shop. She and her husband were members of the Peekskill Cortlandt Senior Citizens group. The last five years she lived in Ithaca.

Bondra is survived by her children, Suzann Bondra of Ossining, James Bondra, Jr. (Deborah Cohen) of Ithaca; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James; and sister, Mildred Slovacek.

Calling hours are Sunday, Dec. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dorsey-Carlone Funeral Home, 1100 Cortlandt St., Peekskill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8 at Assumption Church, Peekskill, followed by interment in Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor.
