PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Eleanor Mary Kurzhals Herring, 90, of Beach Lake, Pa., formerly of Peekskill, died Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The daughter of the late Edward and Mary Clark Kurzhals, she was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Peekskill. She graduated from the Cochran School of Nursing, St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers. She retired from the Peekskill Community Hospital. She served as supervisor of obstetrics and gynecology for more than 20 years. She was a former member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corp. and served six months at Fort Dix, N.J. She was a member of the Peekskill Civic Orchestra as a violinist.
She was a former president of the Peekskill Hospital RN Association. She was a member and former president of the Tusten Senior Citizens Club in Narrowsburg and the Senior Roundup Club of Beach Lake. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, James Herring, their children Clifford J. Herring and his wife, Cheryl, of Lebanon, Conn.; Pamela Lass and her husband, Terry, of Port Jervis, Bruce D. Herring and his wife, Arlene, of Smithville, Mo.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews
She was predeceased by two sisters.
At the request of the family, there will be no visitation or services.
