PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Carmella R. Bertoline, a lifelong Peekskill resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 17. She was 99.
Bertoline was born Oct. 13, 1913, in Peekskill to Pasquale and Rose DiMatteo Pisanello. She worked as a bookkeeper for D. Bertoline and Sons, the family business in Peekskill. She attended Assumption School and was a communicant of Assumption Church.
An avid gardener, Bertoline was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and Home School Association. She enjoyed coloring and playing games with her great-grandchildren, who called her "G.G."
She is survived by two children, Jo-Ann (Vincent) DiPierro of Peekskill and Dominick (Marie) Bertoline of Buchanan; a sister-in-law, Vi Mastrianna; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Bertoline was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas J. Bertoline; four sisters, Antoinette Ronci, Maggie Gasbarra, Philomena Isabella and Josephine Shaw; and three brothers, James, Sam and Dominick Pisanello.
Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home in Peekskill. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Assumption. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
