Monday, July 30
Junior Critics Book Club: 4:30 p.m. A book club for children in grades 5-7. Field Library, 4 Nelson Ave.
Peekskill Committee of the Whole: 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Paul Schwerman Conference Room at Peekskill City Hall, 840 Main St.
Children's Special - Goowin's Balloowins: 7 p.m. A truly unique performance filled with colorful balloons by madcap balloon artist Allynn Goowin. Children from the audience will star in the show. Riverfront Green Park. In case of inclement weather the show will be moved indoors to the Ford Administration Building, 1031 Elm St.
Peekskill Common Council: 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the upstairs Common Council Chambers at Peekskill City Hall, 840 Main St.

Peeskill Tale Waggers: 6:30 p.m. Residents of all ages can tell or listen to stories. Field Library, 4 Nelson Ave.
BeanRunner Cafe Poetry Project: 6-9 p.m. A poetry writing workshop facilitated by poets Ibrahim Siddiq and Jamal Spann will be followed by a poetry open-mic event hosted by Chance. Both the workship and open mic are free and open to the public. BeanRunner Cafe, 201 S. Division St.
Jon Colbert Performance: 8:30-11 p.m. The first Thursday of each month, Jon Cobert takes the stage to perform an eclectic mix of pop/rock covers and original tunes. Cobert is a five-time Grammy-nominated producer, multitalented singer, songwriter and keyboard player. Admission is free. 12 Grapes, 12 N. Division St.
"Capitol Steps": 8 p.m. A group of former congressional staff members has created a show of political skits and parodies. Although not all of the current members are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in 18 congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience. Tickets are $25-45. Paramount Center for the Arts, 1008 Brown St.
Fred Gillen Jr. Performance: 10 p.m. The popular local musician will perform a free set for patrons. Birdsall House, 970 Main St.
Friday, Aug. 3
Mixing in Math: 3:30 p.m. Numbers fun for kids ages five and up. Field Library, 4 Nelson Ave.
Peekskill Celebration Kickoff: 5-11 p.m. Peekskill Celebration 2012 kicks off on Friday night with The Burr Johnson Trio performing its own rocking style of jazz followed by the West Point Jazz Knights. Tony Leon and his Groupo Son Latino: Leon has performed in concerts with Willie Chirino, Ray Baretto, David Valentino, Cachao, Hansel y Raul, Tito Puente and Johnny Pacheco.
