PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Representing the City of Peekskill is a Vesce family tradition that Vinnie Vesce is continuing.

Vesce's father, Vincent, served as Peekskill mayor in the 1990s, and the younger Vesce has served on the Zoning Board of Appeals and is running on the Republican ticket for Common Council. Vesce is principal and CEO of V Squared Strategies, a consulting company.

"The Peekskill I envisioned for my children, the investment that I have made in my community, and the true fabric of what this community once was, in my opinion, is being taken in a direction that will put Peekskill on the path that so many of our river town neighbors have been able to overcome," Vesce said.

Vesce has lived in Peekskill for 42 years and said Peekskill is the place he loves to call home.

"I love living in a place surrounded by family, friends and neighbors who I have known all my life," Vesce said. "I love raising my children here to experience the cultural diversity, history and natural beauty that is in the City of Peekskill."

Vesce said Peekskill's riverfront makes it its greatest attribute.

"Our proximity to Manhattan makes Peekskill an ideal place to live and raise a family, yet still be able to commute to New York City in just under an hour," Vesce said.

Vesce said it is hard for him to pick his favorite restaurant and shops in Peekskill, but said he would like to see more development downtown and by the waterfront.

Peekskill's restaurants "all are very unique and offer a wide variety of dining and shopping experiences," Vesce said.  Overall, Peekskill means "everything" to Vesce, who felt an obligation to run for office.

"My family has been here for generations," Vesce said. "They have owned businesses here, participated in government and civic organizations and volunteered their time to their community. This city has dramatically changed and not for the better."
