PEEKSKILL -- Whether you're into art, history or Latin jazz, there's plenty to do in Peekskill this weekend.
Nellie's Cafe will hold a Teen Dance Night on Friday from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. DJ Sphere returns to spin for teens ages 13 and up. Karaoke will be available in the main dining room and dancing in the larger private room. The $10 cover includes a scoop of Gelato/Sorbetto and light snacks.
On Saturday, The Peekskill Farmer's Market will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Bank Street. Come shop for plants, baked goods, honey, maple syrup, cheeses and other locally made products.
On Sunday, the Peekskill Attic Treasurers Flea Market will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Bank Street. Come search for clothes, shoes, electronics, books, video games and tons more.
Also on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m., The Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art will hold an opening reception for "Circa 1986," an exhibit of work from 1981 to 1991.
On Sunday, local authors Barbara and Wes Gottlock will give a history of the amusement parks in our area from the early 1900s to the 1950s and their experiences at the parks growing up as detailed in their book Lost Amusement Parks of the Hudson Valley at the Peekskill Museum.The event will be held at 2 p.m. Admission is free for museum members and a $5 donation is requested from the general public. The Peekskill Museum is located at 124 Union Avenue.
As always, there is live entertainment this weekend at several of the city's dining venues. At 12 Grapes Friday there will be a night of funky rockin' blues with The Dave Keyes Band. Cover is $5. On Saturday, it's a 90's party with '90s rock cover band Reservoir Pogs. Cover is $10 or $5 with meal. Both shows begin at 9:30 p.m. There is a free Unplugged Sunday show with The Knox Sisters, a 10 and 12-year-old sister duo, at 6 p.m.
The BeanRunner Cafe will feature the Fred Smith Jazz Ensemble on Friday and Latin jazz percussionist Tony Pastrana on Saturday. Both shows start at 7:30 p.m. and have a $10 cover. On Sunday at 3 p.m. the group Ear Candy will perform a free show of diverse musical covers.
At the Birdsall House on Friday, Fred Gillen Jr. will perform at the new outdoor beer garden at 6 p.m. The Peekskill Coffee House will have rockers Joe Duraes on Friday and Radio Rental on Saturday. Both shows begin at 8 p.m. and are free.
