Shelter Open At Peekskill High School Wednesday Night

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – The city has opened a shelter for Peekskill residents who lost power during Hurricane Sandy to stay Wednesday night.

More than 2,100 Con Edison customers in Peekskill were still without power as of Wednesday morning.

The Peekskill High School gymnasium on Elm Street opened at 5 p.m. as an emergency shelter with cots.

The Peekskill City School District and Hendrick Hudson School District canceled classes for Thursday.

The Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce Business Council Breakfast Meeting scheduled for Thursday morning has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Peekskill City Hall was operating on normal hours, as was the Field Library, United States Post Office and The Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce office.

The Tuesday city sanitation schedule will run again on Thursday. City leaf pick-up will resume on Monday, Nov. 5.
