RFK Jr. Moves Mary Kennedy's Burial Plot 700 Feet

BEDFORD, N.Y. — The body of Mary Richardson Kennedy has been moved 700 feet across St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Centerville, Mass., where she was laid to rest on May 19, according to a report by the New York Daily News.

The grave of the estranged wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who committed suicide at her Befdford home May 16, is now located on a hilltop near the entrance of the Catholic burial ground, which is about three miles from the Kennedy family's Hyannis Port compound.

According to the report, gravesite worker Frank Maki, who was in charge of the move, said Kennedy wanted his wife’s body closer to where the Kennedy family is negotiating to buy 50 plots so that she can be near the rest of the family as the site expands.

Originally, Mary had been laid to rest near the graves of Eunice and Sargent Shriver, RFK Jr.’s aunt and uncle.

After Mary Kennedy was found at her home at 326 South Bedford Road, where she had hanged herself, the Richardson family filed a lawsuit to have Mary buried closer to the Bedford residence, so it would be easier for her four children to visit their mother.

According to The News's report, the Richardsons were not aware that her body had been moved until there were contacted by the paper.

The News also reported that Mary Kennedy might have changed her mind at the last minute about hanging herself. According to her autopsy report, Mary Kennedy's fingers were bruised and blue and wedged between her neck and the noose.
