PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- A city man was arrested last week after allegedly threatening his family members with a semi-automatic weapon, police said.
Police arrested Derek Williams, 20, of Peekskill, at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday and charged him with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, and second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor.
Williams' family told police that Williams had been heard loading his firearm and that he was acting irrationally. Police responded to the Benefield Boulevard home and were able to make telephone contact with Williams, who surrendered peacefully to Police Det. Ralph DAliso after about 15 minutes of negotiations, police said.
Williams was charged after police recovered an M-4 assault rifle and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition that had been preloaded into magazines. Williams was held for arraignment in city court.
