Police said Everitt was at the Home Depot in the Cortlandt Town Center completing a fraudulent transaction. After completing the transaction, Home Depot security approached Everitt and attempted to interview him, police said.
Police said Everitt physically resisted and a scuffle broke out. During the scuffle, Everitt produced a folding knife from his right pants pocket, which the security officer was able to knock out of his hand, police said. Everitt then fled the store on foot, police said. Responding State Police units, including a State Police K9 and State Police Aviation Unit, established a perimeter around the area where Everitt was last seen running. A State Police K9 lead Troopers and Investigators in the direction that Everitt fled. After a through search of the area, a Trooper spotted Everitt and a foot pursuit ensued from Westbrook Drive, through the car dealerships on East Main Street (also known as State Route 6), and into a residential area near Laurie Road and Cynthia Road. Everitt was then apprehended in a backyard on Laurie Road. Everitt was charged with robbery in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and falsifying business records in the first degree, all felonies. If convicted of the highest charge, Everitt faces up to 25 years in state prison, police said. Everitt was arraigned in the Town of Cortlandt Court and was remanded to Westchester County Jail without bail. He is due to reappear in Cortlandt Town Court on Monday, Dec. 22, at 9 a.m.
