Peekskill Offers Shelter From Cold At Community Center

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Due to the prolonged cold temperatures, the City of Peekskill has opened a warming center at the Peekskill Neighborhood Center at 4 Nelson Ave.

A shelter will be open until Saturday for those needing to escape the dangerously cold weather.

The warming center will be open daily from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., through Saturday.

Cold temperatures will continue through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with an overnight low of around 5 degrees.

Thursday will see a daytime high of near 22 degrees with wind chill values as low as minus 8 degrees. Temperatures on Thursday night will drop down to around 4 degrees overnight, with a wind chill as low as minus 3 degrees.

There is a chance of snow after 3 p.m., Friday, with a high near 22 degrees. Snow is likely in the evening, mainly between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. with an overnight low around 17 degrees.

Saturday will be partly sunny, with a high near 25 degrees. Temperatures will drop precipitously again Saturday night down to around 1 degree.
