MONTROSE, N.Y. -- State police said that nine people were arrested on Monday after blocking the entrance to Spectra Energy's parking lot in Montrose in protest against the construction of the Algonquin pipeline.

Approximately 20 people were protesting on Route 9, blocking two wareyard driveways while holding banners and signing. The protest caused a traffic backup.

Spectra Energy's Alqonquin Incremental Market (AIM) project would involve building the pipeline close to Indian Point facilities in Buchanan.
