Jan Peek 10k Runs Again

PEEKSKILL -- About 100 runners from across the county got up early to help kickoff their Saturday with a run through the city and beyond.

The annual Jan Peek 10k Race is organized by the Peekskill Celebration Committee and the Taconic Road Runners, and the groups take pride in creating a challenging course. This year’s course took runners from the starting line at the Kiley Center through the streets of the city and then on a grueling uphill climb for several miles through the woods of Depew Park and the back roads of nearby Cortlandt before heading back downhill into the city.

The Peekskill Police and Ambulance Corps. helped regulate traffic during the race and kept runners safe as city volunteers manned three water stops along the course to quench the thirst of those who participated in the race.

Runners reached the finish line at the Division Street gazebo and received plenty of cheers and encouragement from friends, family and fellow runners while getting free water and bananas. All runners who signed up for the race received a commemorative race shirt. Full race results will be posted at the Taconic Road Runners website, www.runner.org, in the coming week and our full photo set for the event is available on our Flickr.com page here.
