The crash occurred around noon on Route 9D and Barrett Place when Carleigh Finch, of Estero, Fla., ran into the back of a Hyundai operated by Gregory Johnson, 51, of Newburgh, said Melissa McMorris, spokeswoman for the New York State Police.

Finch, who was traveling too closely, could not reduce her speed in time to prevent crashing into Johnson's car when traffic slowed, McMorris said.

An investigation revealed that Johnson possessed a small quantity of marijuana. He was transported to St Luke's Hospital with back pain. Finch was not injured, state police said.

Johnson is scheduled to appear in court on March 8.
