Hudson Valley Hospital Phone System Disrupted By Storm

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- Hudson Valley Hospital Center is fully operational following Hurricane Sandy, but is experiencing technical difficulties with its telephone system, hospital officials said on Thursday.

"This is not something unique to us," said Hospital Center President John Federspiel. "Service providers based in Manhattan have been severely affected by the storm and this is spilling over onto many residences and businesses in the Hudson Valley. We ask those who use the hospital or people who have a family member in here to be patient as we have very limited phone service or to use their cell phones if they can."

Extensions at the hospital are not working and there is only capacity for a limited volume of calls through the hospital's main switchboard, at 914-737-9002. People are asked to call the main number only in an emergency. The hospital is working with its service providers to restore phone and Internet service as soon as possible, but currently has no estimate of when the problem will be resolved.
