Former Governor and Peekskill Mayor George Pataki Eyes Presidential Bid

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Former New York Governor George Pataki told local ABC affiliate WMUR that he is seriously considering a late entrance into the Presidential race. Pataki said that his decision will come “very soon” and that he does not believe that anyone else in the current Republican presidential field can beat President Barack Obama.

Pataki was taking part in a discussion about the debt ceiling at Manchester’s Saint Anselm College. However WMUR reporter James Pindell, who wrote the story, noted that Pataki has made similar claims in New Hampshire before.

“By my count this is the 20th trip Pataki has made to New Hampshire since October 2005. At nearly every stop he has said what he said today,” Pindell said. Pataki, who now lives in nearby Garrison, grew up in Peekskill and graduated from Peekskill High School. He served as mayor from 1981 to 1984 and served briefly in the New York State Assembly and State Senate before being elected governor in 1995 and serving three four year terms.
