Residents' applications for FEMA relief money or the Small Business Administration's disaster loans have until Feb. 27 to get into the system, FEMA public information officer Nate Custer said Saturday.

Custer, along with several federal assistance representatives, hosted a disaster recovery workshop Saturday in Valhalla to answer questions about the recovery process. The workshop was sparsely attended, although similar workshops in White Plains and Stony Point saw more of a crowd, Custer said.

It “could well be the case that people are satisfied and that they understand what's happening with their applications,” Custer said. “But we just want to make the opportunity available for people to come in and talk.”

In Westchester, FEMA has gotten more than 5,600 applications so far and processed more than $1,838,000 in disaster funds for Hurricane Sandy victims. The Small Business Administration has received approximately 4,000 applications for low-interest disaster loans.
